ABOUT
The Ally Coalition partnered with bestselling author Janet Mock to launch the #DearBetsyDevos campaign in response to the Trump Administration's decision to revoke guidelines protecting trans students in public schools. As Janet Mock stated, "Young people overwhelmingly get it. It's adults like those in the Trump administration who don't realize that pitting young people against one another has consequences. It encourages some to be bullies and it turns others into sinister objects." The campaign aimed to hold Secretary Betsy Devos and the Department of Education accountable for providing a school environment that accommodates trans students in accordance with Title IX protections.
PROCESS
To amplify the message and reach a wider audience, we created a brand identity for the campaign, including social media graphics, postcards, and flyers. The postcards served as a reminder to Secretary DeVos that it was her duty to protect all students, including trans students, and uphold Title IX protections by providing safe spaces for them. The campaign was built with the help of Tumblr and Care2, and gained significant traction on social media, drawing attention to the need for protection and support for trans students.
